This support group for survivors and caregivers offers the chance to gain the confidence and support necessary to move forward with recovery. In fact, when you experience a major event in your life such as being injured, being around other people who are facing similar challenges can be helpful. Every group is facilitated by a trauma survivor. Some support groups also have a leader who is a health professional involved in the care of trauma patients. Groups meet monthly and often include guest speakers who talk about topics of interest to the group.
Some benefits of joining a peer support group include:
- Gaining support and hope from others facing similar experiences
- Feeling less anxious and alone
- Helping others
- Learning new skills for coping and enhancing your life
- Becoming more self-confident
- Feeling more in control
- Helping your family and friends cope with your injury and recovery
Support groups for survivors and caregivers are being held on the following dates via Zoom:
11/13 at 10 am – Self-Care: Healing After Trauma
12/11 at 10 am – Coping and Resiliency
1/8 at 10 am – Acceptance, Boundary Setting and Gratitude
Resources will be provided at the beginning of each session and referral to additional services (mental health/substance use) may be provided if the survivor needs them at any time during the course of recovery.
