Compassionate Care Available 24 Hours a Day
South Texas Health System McAllen has a long-standing history of providing compassionate care to the most vulnerable of populations, including people who have been sexually assaulted. Children and adults of both sexes who have experienced this type of trauma have resources available to them through the Emergency Department (ED) and through our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE).
Sexual Assault Nurse Shares Career Experiences
Lori Guerrero doesn’t have an easy job. As a sexual assault nurse at South Texas Health System McAllen, she treats adult and pediatric patients who have been victims of unthinkable abuse.
A SANE is a registered nurse who has received training in providing care to sexual assault victims. A SANE is able to conduct a forensic exam and can be called on to provide expert testimony if a case goes to trial.
South Texas Health System McAllen provides this service 24 hours a day, seven days a week on an on-call basis. SANEs are called in as the patients present to the ED.
