Endovascular Stroke Treatment

South Texas Health System McAllen is a Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center by DNV-GL. It is also designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Level II Primary Stroke Facility and certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Facility. We provide endovascular stroke treatment, which is less invasive than traditional surgery. Our endovascular physicians perform minimally invasive image-guided neurosurgical procedures to treat disorders of the brain, head, neck and spine.

Our neurosurgeons diagnose and treat patients with injuries or diseases of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spine and peripheral nerves.

Neurocritical Care

Our neurocritical care physicians provide intensive care management of patients with critical neurologic illnesses, neurological complications of systemic illnesses, and neurological emergencies. This includes a massive stroke, bleeding in or around the brain, brain tumors, brain trauma, severe seizures, nerve and muscle diseases, spinal cord disorders and cardiopulmonary complications of brain injury.

  • Someone in the U.S. has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every four minutes, someone dies of stroke.
  • Every year, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke. About 610,000 of these are first or new strokes.
